Our History

Drainage districts were established in the early 1900s to meet the agricultural needs of the time. The channels were designed only to meet a storm capacity of 2 - 5 years, with most of the channels located in Piedmont and the Coast. To assist with the management of these channels, the Southeastern Drainage Office was founded in 1994 as a nonprofit organization. We are not operated by any county government and are instead governed by an executive board. Today, we serve over 18,350 parcels of land and more than 400 miles of drainage canals.
